First Day of School Magic Dust

Welcome to the Educators' Spin On It.  If you like this post we invite you to follow us on Pinterest, Facebook and Google + for the latest for Back to school!

As you prepare for your child to go to school for the very first time it can be very exciting but it’s also an anxious time for both parents and your little ones.  It’s a great opportunity to talk about feelings and what we do when we feel a certain way.  My daughter and I talked about school a lot this summer to help prepare her for her Kindergarten experience.  We made a special Going to SchoolBook by writing the text together about different parts of a school day and illustrating it together.  You can print your own {HERE}

To help make this transition go smoothly my daughter received a special First Day of School Poem from her teacher that was so precious I wanted to share with you.  She was so excited about putting her magic dust from her teacher under her pillow all week long that we even had to make a special Count Down to School for the First Day of School.

Here a PRINTABLE Version of the First Day of School Poem
Here are the directions

  1. I'm visiting here from Susan Case's post on the Back-to-School Blog so so happy I came!!!
    I love your blog, love the video, love the magic dust (used that over 30 years ago when my little ones were anxious about going to sleep), love the books you listed. One of my favorites is "The Kissing Hand"...I did a post with activity:
    I am also donating a dozen copies of "Show Me How" to schools and classrooms across the country...just leave a comment on the post I put in the linky. :)

  2. Love this idea! My daughter doesnt transition well and although she was excited to start school two months ago now that the time is getting closer she is nervous so hopefully this helps!

    What was the magic "dust" made out of?

  3. Great list of book and love the fairy dust idea. Thanks for sharing it.

  4. Lisa the dust was made from blue sand with a little bit of clear glitter in it. But truthfully you could make it from anything glittery and a small ziplock bag. Hope it helps!

  5. Wow! What a great idea! I love the poem. I would love for you to link this post to my Back to School Traditions link up!

  6. Thank you so much for link up! I am off to share this post.

  7. What a cute idea - I've never heard of magic dust before. My kindergartner will love this!

  8. Love, love, love that you guys wrote a book together. The poem is also super cute. The book list is great too!

  9. I just reread this poem! I had to pin it.

  10. We love the 'night before' books! And what a cute idea to have magic dust :) I hope she had a wonderful start to the school year!
