Winter Olympics Themed Books

Winter Olympics are on their way and it's time to prepare our kids for all the amazing winter sports they will discover this year in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. They are February 7 through February 23 so now's the time to start grabbing books to prepare our children through literature.

I took a little trip to the library to start finding out what options are available with books and discovered there are not that many in my local library.  I have quite a few of these on hold and can't wait for them to come in.  Plus I've selected a couple on Amazon to buy.  Here are some of the Olympic Books I can't wait to share with my kids.

Winter Olympics Themed  Books

I've linked each of this up to our Amazon Affiliate account just in case you decide you want to purchase one. We could receive a small portion of the sale in return to help support The Educators Spin On It.  All Opinions are written on my own.

Non Fiction Books about the Winter Olympics

I encourage you to read several non fiction books with your child during the Olympics it's creates an opportunity for many teachable moments for your child.  If you're lucky enough you may live in a place where you'd get to also go out and experience these Winter Olympic Sports. Which sport do you think will be your child's favorite to discover?

Story Books about Winter Olympics Sports

There are so many Fiction books I can't wait for my child to experience.  I'm sure many will also be great story prompts for our writing as well.  Penguins, Camels, Rhinos, Dinosaurs you name it you can find books with Winter Sports and a variety of characters.

The Winter Olympics are less that a month away!  Are your children ready to experience memories of a lifetime?  Which Gold Medalist do you think the will remember?  Do you have a specific Sport you want to make sure they watch with you?  The Olympics provide so many teachable moments for learning about our world as well as we teach our children about diversity and raising Global Kids.  Here are a few resources to get you started.  We'll be pinning all month long resources we find onto our Olympic Pinterest Board .  If you have one please share it in the comments below!

My kids adore Callie Cat Ice Skater this year. I think it is simply marvelous because she doesn't "win" the competition, but finds the name for the pure, melting sweetness she feels when she skates.
